In May 2007, a group from St. Teresa’s Parish in Woodbury, CT traveled down to the Children of the Light orphanage (or project) in La Ceiba, Honduras. That’s where I fell in love with the 23 boys at the project, as well as the rest of my Honduran family down there. At the COTL project, the boys are provided with shelter, food, new clothes, spiritual guidance and are sent to school. More importantly, they are extremely loved there. Before coming to the project, the boys (ages 6-20 years old) were either living on the streets, tossed from one foster home to the next or living in an unstable, broken home. Furthermore, many had experienced drug use, gangs, violence, crime and abuse while living on the streets of Honduras. However, at the project the boys are now the happiest, most hard-working, loving and sassiest kids I have ever met and I am madly in love with every single one of them.

After my first visit in July 2007, I visited again this May for 3 weeks with two other friends. Since it was just the three of us, this time we were able to get to know the boys much better on a personal level and I can truly call them my friends. I miss them so much and expect to hear lots about them since I try my hardest to raise awareness and support about this amazing organization.  If you would like to find out more please click on these three links!
